Not every aerial engagement ended with an aircraft being shot down. Many pilots managed to return to their airfields despite enemy fire, damaged aircraft and personal wounds, sometimes escaping serious injury by the narrowest of margins.

BGC-12 – The Lucky Flesh Wound captures one of these moments, depicting an airman who has survived his encounter and lived to fly another day.
