Landing an aircraft aboard a moving carrier required exceptional skill, particularly during the Second World War, when naval aviation operations were conducted at an extraordinary tempo.

BH-14 – Landing Officer (LSO) represents the officer responsible for helping guide approaching pilots safely onto the flight deck. Positioned where the incoming pilot could clearly see him, the LSO used visual signals to indicate whether the aircraft should continue its approach or make another attempt.
