BH-24 – USS Bunker Hill, Pilot

The USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) was one of the United States Navy’s Essex-class aircraft carriers and saw extensive action throughout the Pacific War. Her flight deck was home to a powerful mixture of fighters, dive bombers and torpedo aircraft supporting major American operations against Japanese forces.

BH-24 – USS Bunker Hill, Pilot represents one of the naval aviators who flew from the carrier’s crowded flight deck. These pilots faced demanding missions over vast stretches of ocean, often flying against heavily defended enemy positions and engaging Japanese aircraft far from their ship.
