BTCT-10 – Carthaginian Marines | John Jenkins Designs
The naval power of Carthage was one of the foundations of its dominance in the western Mediterranean. Founded by Phoenician settlers on the coast of North Africa, Carthage developed an extensive maritime trading network and maintained a powerful fleet to defend its commercial interests.
During the Punic Wars, Carthaginian warships confronted the rapidly expanding Roman Republic in a struggle for control of the Mediterranean. Warships carried not only experienced sailors and oarsmen but also armed marines, who were responsible for defending their vessels and engaging enemy crews during boarding actions.
Carthage's military drew upon a wide variety of peoples, including Libyans, Iberians, Numidians, Gauls and Greeks. Its naval forces were especially important during the First Punic War, when control of the sea became central to the struggle between Rome and Carthage.
BTCT-10 – Carthaginian Marines by John Jenkins Designs represents the armed fighting men who served aboard Carthaginian warships.
Part of The Carthaginians and Their Allies series within Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome, this set is designed to complement Carthaginian naval displays and scenes depicting the fierce maritime battles of the Punic Wars.
