The 5th Virginia Infantry Regiment formed another component of the brigade that achieved fame under Thomas J. Jackson in 1861.

Raised from companies originating in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, the regiment served throughout many of the major campaigns of the Army of Northern Virginia.
