CSBS-262728B – Dismounted Cavalry | John Jenkins Designs
CSBS-262728B depicts Confederate cavalrymen fighting dismounted during the Battle of Brandy Station.
By the American Civil War, improvements in firearms had changed the traditional role of cavalry. Horse soldiers increasingly operated as highly mobile troops who could ride quickly to an important position, dismount and then fight on foot using carbines, pistols and other firearms.
When a cavalry unit dismounted, one trooper would normally remain behind to hold the horses of several comrades while the others moved forward to fight. This gave cavalry considerable flexibility and allowed them to combine mobility with the advantages of fighting on foot.
The Battle of Brandy Station provided a dramatic example of the changing nature of cavalry warfare, with mounted charges, dismounted skirmishing and confused close combat occurring across a wide area.
CSBS-262728B is ideal for adding variety and realism to a Confederate cavalry display and pairs well with mounted figures from the Army of Northern Virginia.
Will be available from The Military Workshop.
