CTSM-05A – Samnite Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
Long before Rome established its dominance throughout the Mediterranean, the Roman Republic faced determined resistance from the peoples of the Italian peninsula.
Among its most formidable opponents were the Samnites, a confederation of Italic tribes occupying the mountainous regions of central and southern Italy.
The Samnites fought a series of wars against Rome between 343 and 272 BC, conflicts that significantly influenced the development of Roman military organisation.
The mountainous countryside favoured the Samnites' experience in mobile warfare and ambush tactics, presenting considerable challenges to the more rigid infantry formations employed by Rome.
Samnite warriors were distinguished by their brightly coloured tunics and individually decorated military equipment. Their weapons included javelins and short spears, while protection was provided by round or oval shields and, in some cases, distinctive bronze breastplates.
CTSM-05A – Samnite Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts an advancing infantryman wearing a tan-coloured tunic.
The figure carries a decorated yellow shield and holds his spear raised above his shoulder, ready to thrust downward towards an approaching enemy.
The warrior's fighting stance makes him an excellent addition to a larger Samnite infantry formation.
Designed to complement CTSM-05B and the four-figure CTSM-05N set, this miniature forms part of the John Jenkins Designs Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection.
