CTSM-05B – Samnite Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
The Samnites were among the most important military opponents faced by the expanding Roman Republic during the 4th and 3rd centuries BC.
Living among the mountains of central and southern Italy, these Italic warriors developed military tactics particularly suited to difficult and uneven terrain.
The series of conflicts known as the Samnite Wars, beginning in 343 BC, challenged the effectiveness of Rome's traditional military formations.
According to the historical background provided by John Jenkins Designs, the Samnites employed a loose phalanx formation that allowed greater flexibility than the more rigid Greek style of warfare.
Their military equipment included short spears, javelins and a variety of oval and round shields. Many warriors also wore distinctive bronze body armour, particularly the triple-disc cuirass associated with ancient Italian military traditions.
CTSM-05B – Samnite Warrior by John Jenkins Designs depicts an advancing Samnite infantryman wearing a distinctive light blue tunic.
The warrior carries a decorated white shield and raises his spear high above his shoulder, preparing to deliver a downward thrust against an approaching opponent.
The pose captures the intensity of close-quarter infantry combat and complements other advancing Samnite warriors in the collection.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome range, this figure is ideal for expanding a Samnite battlefield formation.
