CW17-03 - 17th Light Dragoon Trooper | John Jenkins Designs

This mounted British cavalryman represents the 17th Light Dragoons during the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781.

The figure depicts a trooper with his sword thrust forward and upwards, capturing the action of a mounted soldier engaged in close combat.

The 17th Light Dragoons were formed in 1759 and were sent to America in 1775 as British forces attempted to suppress the growing colonial rebellion.

During the Southern Campaign, a small detachment of the regiment served alongside Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton's British Legion cavalry.

While the British Legion wore distinctive green coats, the regular soldiers of the 17th Light Dragoons continued to wear their traditional scarlet uniforms.

Approximately one hundred dragoons were present at the Battle of Cowpens, where the British force suffered a major defeat against Brigadier General Daniel Morgan's American army.

Despite the outcome, the 17th Light Dragoons were noted for retiring from the battlefield in good order.

This mounted figure is ideal for a cavalry charge or battlefield display and can be combined with the other 17th Light Dragoon releases.
