CW3LD-02 - Gillie | John Jenkins Designs
This mounted figure, titled Gillie, forms part of the Third Continental Dragoons collection representing American cavalry during the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781.
The American mounted forces at Cowpens served under Colonel William Washington as part of Brigadier General Daniel Morgan's army. Their presence was particularly important because the opposing British army included the experienced mounted troops of Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton's British Legion.
Throughout the American War of Independence, dragoons were employed for reconnaissance, guarding positions, providing mobile reserves and supporting attacks against enemy forces.
Morgan strengthened his regular cavalry with additional militia horsemen to improve his army's ability to respond to British mounted attacks.
The Battle of Cowpens resulted in a major American victory and demonstrated the effectiveness of combining disciplined Continental infantry, militia and cavalry.
CW3LD-02 is an individual mounted figure within this historical collection and can be displayed with the other Third Continental Dragoon releases to build a broader representation of the American mounted forces.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
