CW3LD-03 - Continental Dragoon | John Jenkins Designs

Representing a mounted soldier of the Third Continental Dragoons, this figure belongs to the American cavalry collection associated with the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781.

The Third Continental Dragoons served under Colonel William Washington during the Southern Campaign and formed a significant part of Brigadier General Daniel Morgan's available mounted forces.

Dragoons were versatile soldiers who undertook reconnaissance, guarded strategic positions, supported infantry and engaged enemy cavalry. Their principal close-combat weapon was the sabre, although carbines and pistols were also commonly carried by mounted troops.

At Cowpens, American cavalry faced British mounted forces under Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton, whose British Legion had developed a reputation for its mobility and aggressive operations.

The American victory at Cowpens became one of the important turning points of the campaign in South Carolina and demonstrated the value of coordinated infantry and cavalry action.

CW3LD-03 provides collectors with an individual Continental cavalryman suitable for displaying alongside Colonel William Washington and the other Third Continental Dragoon figures.
