CW3LD-07A - Continental Dragoon | John Jenkins Designs

Representing a mounted trooper of the Third Continental Dragoons, this figure forms part of the American cavalry collection depicting the Battle of Cowpens during the American War of Independence.

The Third Continental Dragoons were among the regular mounted forces available to Brigadier General Daniel Morgan, serving under Colonel William Washington during the campaign in the Carolinas.

Cavalry strength was a particular concern for Morgan, who faced experienced British horsemen commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton. The Continental Dragoons were consequently reinforced by small groups of volunteer militia cavalry.

American dragoons undertook scouting, mounted patrols, mobile reserve duties and close combat. The sabre was a particularly important weapon, allowing cavalrymen to attack enemy troops and pursue retreating formations.

At Cowpens on 17 January 1781, the American forces achieved a decisive victory through the coordinated actions of Continental soldiers and militia.

This individually mounted figure is ideal for building a Third Continental Dragoons formation and complements CW3LD-07B and the other mounted figures in the Battle of Cowpens collection.
