CW71-02 - 71st Regiment of Foot Drummer | John Jenkins Designs

This figure represents a drummer of the British 71st Regiment of Foot, commonly known as Fraser's Highlanders, during the American War of Independence.

The regiment was raised in Scotland in 1775 by Lieutenant-General Simon Fraser of Lovat and was deployed to North America to serve during the conflict between Britain and the American colonies.

After serving in the northern colonies, the 71st Regiment participated in the Southern Campaign, where detachments operated alongside British regular and Loyalist forces.

At the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781, the 1st Battalion served under Major Archibald McArthur within Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton's army.

Military drummers were an important part of eighteenth-century infantry regiments, providing signals to communicate orders and assisting with maintaining marching formations and military routines.

The 71st Regiment suffered considerable losses at Cowpens, although its surviving soldiers continued to serve during the remainder of the Southern Campaign.

CW71-02 is an excellent supporting figure for collectors recreating Fraser's Highlanders and complements the regiment's officer, standard bearers and infantrymen.
