CW71-09 - 71st Regiment of Foot Standard Bearer, Union Flag | John Jenkins Designs

This figure represents a standard bearer carrying the Union Flag of the 1st Battalion, 71st Regiment of Foot, commonly known as Fraser's Highlanders, during the American War of Independence.

The regiment was raised in Scotland in 1775 by Lieutenant-General Simon Fraser of Lovat specifically for service during the conflict in North America.

Following service in the northern colonies, the 71st was transferred south and became involved in the British campaigns through the Carolinas.

At the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781, the 1st Battalion served under Major Archibald McArthur as part of Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton's force.

The regiment experienced heavy losses during the battle, which ended in a significant American victory under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan.

The Union Flag represented an important element of a British regiment's colours, serving as a symbol of its identity, allegiance and military traditions.

CW71-09 provides a distinctive standard bearer for collectors recreating the 71st Regiment at Cowpens.

It can be displayed alongside CW71-08 Regimental Standard Bearer, the drummer and other Highland infantry figures.
