CWDEL-01 - Delaware Company Officer and Drummer | John Jenkins Designs

This two-figure command set depicts an officer and drummer of the Delaware Company, representing the Continental soldiers who served with distinction during the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781.

The Delaware Company was one of four veteran Continental infantry companies forming the core of Brigadier General Daniel Morgan's army. Commanded by Captain Robert Kirkwood, the Delaware soldiers were recognised for their battlefield experience and discipline.

The officer represents the leadership essential to maintaining control of an infantry formation, while the drummer reflects the importance of military musicians in eighteenth-century armies. Drum signals were used to communicate orders and regulate movement during marches and military operations.

The Delaware Company had been supplied with replacement clothing before Cowpens, including hunting shirts and blue-striped overalls, reflecting the practical conditions faced by Continental soldiers.

Together, these two figures provide an important command element for collectors recreating the Delaware Company's contribution to the American victory at Cowpens.

They can be displayed alongside CWDEL-02 Standard Bearer and the CWDEL infantry sets to form a more complete Continental unit.
