CWDEL-05A - Delaware Company, Two Infantrymen | John Jenkins Designs
Depicting two American Continental infantrymen from the Delaware Company, this set represents the experienced soldiers who fought under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan at the Battle of Cowpens on 17 January 1781.
The set includes one standing infantryman firing his musket in pale-grey clothing and a second kneeling infantryman firing while wearing buff-coloured clothing.
The Delaware Company formed part of the main Continental battle line under Lieutenant Colonel John Eager Howard, alongside three companies from Maryland. These disciplined soldiers were among the most experienced men in Morgan's army, and many were veterans of the Battle of Camden.
Although the Delaware soldiers had originally been issued dark blue uniforms with red facings, shortages and replacement clothing resulted in a more varied appearance. Hunting shirts and practical overalls were among the garments supplied to the company before Cowpens.
The combination of standing and kneeling firing figures makes this set particularly suitable for a Continental defensive formation. It also complements CWDEL-05B and the larger four-figure CWDEL-05N set.
