CWMLD-01B - American Militia Dragoon | John Jenkins Designs
This individually mounted American militia dragoon represents one of the volunteer cavalrymen who reinforced the Continental Army during the Battle of Cowpens in January 1781.
Brigadier General Daniel Morgan recognised that his mounted forces were significantly outnumbered by the experienced British cavalry serving under Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton.
To strengthen his army, small volunteer militia contingents were organised as mounted troops, joining the regular Continental cavalry under Colonel William Washington.
Dragoons were versatile soldiers who could carry out reconnaissance, provide security, support infantry formations and pursue retreating enemy forces. Their ability to move quickly across the battlefield made them an important part of eighteenth-century military operations.
The militia cavalry at Cowpens contributed to the American force's flexibility during an engagement that became one of the most significant victories of the Southern Campaign.
CWMLD-01B provides collectors with another individual mounted figure for recreating these American cavalry units, especially when combined with the CWMLD-01A and CWMLD-02 variants.
