CWMLD-02A - American Militia Dragoon | John Jenkins Designs
Representing an American militia dragoon during the Battle of Cowpens, this mounted figure forms part of the cavalry forces assembled by Brigadier General Daniel Morgan to oppose the British army under Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton.
American commanders faced a shortage of regular cavalry during the Southern Campaign. In response, volunteer militia contingents were hastily equipped as mounted troops to reinforce the experienced Continental Dragoons.
These soldiers provided additional mobility and support at a time when Tarleton's British Legion cavalry posed a significant threat to the American forces.
Throughout the American War of Independence, dragoons carried out reconnaissance, guarded positions, served as mobile reserves and supported attacks against enemy formations. The sabre was especially important in mounted combat.
CWMLD-02A adds another mounted soldier to the American cavalry range, allowing collectors to represent the combination of Continental and volunteer militia horsemen involved at Cowpens.
It can be displayed with the corresponding CWMLD-02B variation or combined with the earlier militia dragoon releases to create a larger mounted contingent.
