The Mohawk, one of the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, occupied a central place in the history of New York's Mohawk Valley.
During the American Revolution, many Mohawk warriors fought alongside the British and Loyalist cause, with figures such as Joseph Brant becoming prominent in frontier operations.
