Gold Beach was one of the two British landing beaches during Operation Overlord, where troops of the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division, supported by the 8th Armoured Brigade, successfully fought through strong German coastal defences before advancing inland towards Bayeux. Despite fierce resistance, the British achieved many of their objectives on D-Day, making Gold Beach one of the most successful Allied landing sectors.
