DD402 – AP BAR Gunner

The Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) provided American infantry squads with mobile automatic fire throughout the Second World War. Chambered for the powerful .30-06 cartridge, the BAR offered significantly greater firepower than the standard service rifle and was often used to suppress enemy positions while riflemen manoeuvred into better positions.

BAR gunners carried one of the squad's most important weapons and were frequently supported by assistants carrying additional magazines. Their ability to deliver accurate suppressive fire proved invaluable during the difficult fighting through the Normandy hedgerows and beyond.
