DD405 – AP Medic
Military medics served without distinction between rank or unit, risking their own lives to care for wounded soldiers wherever they fell. Armed primarily with medical supplies and protected under the Geneva Convention by the distinctive Red Cross insignia, they nevertheless found themselves working under enemy fire throughout the Second World War.
The Normandy campaign presented enormous challenges for combat medics. Casualties often lay exposed in open fields or trapped behind hedgerows swept by enemy machine-gun and sniper fire. Despite the danger, medics repeatedly ventured forward to stabilise wounded men and arrange their evacuation to field hospitals.
King & Country's DD405 "AP Medic" pays tribute to these courageous medical personnel whose dedication and compassion saved countless lives during the war. The figure serves as a reminder that heroism on the battlefield was not measured solely by those carrying weapons.
