At the centre of a desperate defensive position, few weapons create a more dramatic focal point than a Gatling gun.

FFL083 – Legionnaire Firing Gatling Gun combines one of the most famous military formations of the colonial era with one of the best-known early rapid-fire weapons.

Patented by Richard Jordan Gatling in 1862, the Gatling gun used multiple rotating barrels operated mechanically by a hand crank. It was not a machine gun in the later fully automatic sense, but it could deliver a formidable rate of fire compared with conventional rifles of the period.

Thomas Gunn's figure portrays a Legionnaire actively operating the weapon, making FFL083 a natural centrepiece around which the other new releases can be arranged.

Position the wounded FFL081 and fallen FFL082 nearby, with riflemen defending the flanks, and the scene quickly develops into the desperate last stand envisaged for the range.
