FFL084 – Two Legionnaires Firing Downward | Thomas Gunn

The French Foreign Legion, established on 10 March 1831 under King Louis Philippe, became one of the most celebrated military formations in French history. Originally created to incorporate foreign volunteers into the French Army, the Legion soon earned a formidable reputation through its campaigns in North Africa, where its soldiers faced harsh desert conditions, difficult terrain and determined resistance.

Throughout the colonial campaigns of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Legionnaires frequently found themselves defending isolated outposts, fortified buildings and remote settlements against attacking forces. Fighting from elevated positions offered a valuable advantage, allowing defenders to direct their rifle fire upon enemies approaching below.

FFL084 – Two Legionnaires Firing Downward by Thomas Gunn captures the intensity of such a defensive engagement. This finely detailed two-figure set depicts one Legionnaire standing and firing his rifle downward, while his companion kneels alongside him, also taking aim at an enemy below.

The positioning of both figures makes them particularly suitable for placement along rooftops, balconies, defensive walls or elevated fortifications, recreating the atmosphere of a desperate battle in a North African settlement.

Designed to complement the Thomas Gunn French Foreign Legion range, these figures pair especially well with the Middle Eastern building and other Legionnaires, allowing collectors to construct a dramatic defensive scene.
