Snow, exhaustion, dwindling ammunition and repeated attacks had reduced the retreating force from Kabul to a tiny fraction of its original strength by the time it reached Gandamak on 13 January 1842.

There, men of the 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot and other survivors attempted a final resistance.

GAN-09, from the 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Series, is a substantial four-piece set representing members of the 44th during this desperate last action.

Combined with GAN-06, GAN-07 and the named personalities in the range, the figures allow collectors to recreate a particularly dramatic episode of the First Anglo-Afghan War.
