GGNC-02 – Natal Carbineers, a beautifully hand-painted two-piece set from the Volunteers, Irregulars and Auxiliaries collection, available from The Military Workshop.

Founded in 1855, the Natal Carbineers quickly established a reputation as an elite colonial mounted unit, recruited from experienced horsemen throughout the Colony of Natal. Highly regarded for their discipline, scouting ability, and expert marksmanship, the regiment became an invaluable part of Britain's colonial defence forces in southern Africa.

During the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, the Natal Carbineers served in several key operations, undertaking reconnaissance, escort duties, and mounted patrols across the challenging South African landscape. Members of the regiment fought at the Battle of Isandlwana, where many displayed extraordinary courage during the disastrous defeat, while others continued to serve with distinction throughout the remainder of the campaign. Their local knowledge and ability to move swiftly across difficult terrain made them indispensable to British commanders.

Expertly sculpted and richly hand-painted, this two-figure set captures the distinctive appearance of these respected colonial volunteers. Equipped as mounted riflemen and portrayed with exceptional historical accuracy, they make an outstanding addition to any Anglo-Zulu War collection.

Whether displayed alongside British regular infantry, colonial mounted troops, or Zulu warriors, GGNC-02 – Natal Carbineers brings to life the courage and professionalism of one of Natal's most famous volunteer regiments.
