GGNC-06 – Natal Carabineers | John Jenkins Designs

Founded in 1855, the Natal Carabineers were one of the colony’s established volunteer mounted units by the time war with the Zulu kingdom began in 1879.

Operating essentially as light mounted infantry, the Carabineers joined Lord Chelmsford’s central column during the invasion of Zululand. Members of the unit were present at Isandlwana on 22 January 1879, where the regiment suffered serious losses.

GGNC-06 represents members of this distinctive colonial unit in the dark blue uniform and white helmet associated with the Natal Carabineers.

The figures provide an excellent contrast to British regular infantry and help illustrate the variety of regular, colonial and irregular forces involved in the campaign.

Now available from The Military Workshop – an excellent John Jenkins Designs set representing one of Natal’s best-known volunteer formations.
