GGNC-09 – Natal Carabineers | John Jenkins Designs

GGNC-09 portrays members of the Natal Carabineers, one of the mounted volunteer formations raised to defend the British colony of Natal.

Established in 1855, the regiment developed from the colonial volunteer system created when concerns arose that regular British troops might be withdrawn for service elsewhere.

The Carabineers later joined Lord Chelmsford’s invasion force during the Anglo-Zulu War and formed part of the Central Column.

Their distinctive dark blue uniforms with white facings make them a colourful addition to an Anglo-Zulu War collection, while their role as mounted infantry gives them an important place among the colonial auxiliaries supporting the British regular army.

Will be available from The Military Workshop.
