GGZ-30 – Zulus with Muskets

Although the Zulu army is most readily associated with the spear and shield, firearms were by no means absent from Zulu warfare.

By 1879, significant numbers of guns had entered the Zulu kingdom through trade and other channels. These varied greatly in age, type and quality, with older muskets existing alongside more modern firearms. Their effectiveness could also be limited by ammunition supply and differences in individual experience with the weapons.

GGZ-30 – Zulus with Muskets brings this less commonly represented element of the Zulu impi into the collection.

These figures can be positioned behind or among spear-armed warriors, creating a more varied force and helping to avoid the inaccurate impression that every Zulu combatant entered battle armed in precisely the same way.

They are particularly useful for a Gingindlovu display, where they can be combined with the inGobamakhosi releases to develop a substantial attacking force.
