GGZ-30N – Zulus with Muskets
Building a convincing Zulu army involves more than simply increasing the number of spear-carrying warriors. The variety of weapons actually present within the impi can add considerable historical interest to a large display.
GGZ-30N – Zulus with Muskets enables collectors to increase the firearm-equipped component of their Zulu force.
Older muskets had circulated through southern Africa well before the Anglo-Zulu War, and by 1879 firearms were familiar within the region. They did not replace the traditional emphasis on rapid advance and close combat, but they formed part of the wider range of weapons available to Zulu warriors.
A group of musket-armed men positioned among the advancing regiments creates an interesting visual contrast with warriors carrying shields and spears. They can also be placed farther back, suggesting men attempting to engage British positions from a distance.
Available from The Military Workshop – an excellent John Jenkins Designs set for collectors wanting a larger and more varied representation of the Zulu impi.
