GLA-02 – Friend in Need – Gallipoli
The Gallipoli Campaign of 1915 occupies a profound place in Australian and New Zealand military history. The campaign began with the Allied landings on the Gallipoli Peninsula on 25 April 1915, but the troops soon found themselves fighting across steep, broken terrain where advances were difficult and casualties could be severe.
GLA-02 – Friend in Need focuses not on the charge itself, but on the bond between soldiers amid the fighting.
The figure grouping captures one man assisting a comrade, reflecting the practical reality that wounded soldiers often depended upon those around them for immediate help before stretcher-bearers or medical personnel could reach them.
This makes GLA-02 particularly effective away from the front edge of a diorama. Position it behind charging troops, near a trench or on the slope below a contested position, where it can show the human consequences of the fighting unfolding ahead.
