GLA-04B – ANZAC Casualties – Blue Shirts – Gallipoli

The courage associated with Gallipoli came at an enormous human cost.

Fighting from April until the final Allied evacuations in December 1915 and January 1916 produced heavy casualties on both sides. Disease, exhaustion and the difficult environment compounded the losses caused directly by combat.

GLA-04B – ANZAC Casualties portrays Australian soldiers in blue shirts, capturing the consequences of the fighting rather than another moment of attack.

Casualty figures are important in a historically grounded battlefield because they prevent the scene from appearing too clean or theatrical. Positioned along the path of an advance, beside a trench or behind charging comrades, they immediately communicate the danger facing the men still moving forward.

The blue-shirt variation can also be mixed with white-shirt ANZAC figures, creating the varied appearance of soldiers who had been campaigning under harsh conditions.

Available from The Military Workshop – a powerful John Jenkins Designs Gallipoli set adding realism and a sombre human dimension to an ANZAC battlefield.
