GLA-20 – Hand-to-Hand Set #1 – Gallipoli
At its closest, the fighting at Gallipoli could become brutally personal.
The trench systems and confined terrain sometimes brought opposing troops into hand-to-hand combat, where rifles, bayonets, grenades and whatever weapons were immediately available replaced long-range exchanges of fire.
GLA-20 – Hand-to-Hand Set #1 captures one of these close encounters, bringing opposing combatants together in a ready-made action vignette.
This type of set works particularly well at the focal point of a larger diorama. Charging ANZACs can lead towards it, firing troops can support from behind and casualties can mark the route of the advance.
Rather than representing Gallipoli simply as two distant trench lines, GLA-20 conveys how suddenly the fighting could collapse into extremely close quarters once an assault reached an enemy position.
