For a gladiator, surviving the fight was only part of the contest. Victory brought recognition from the crowd and the possibility of rewards, while defeat could leave a fighter's fate uncertain.

GLAD-09 – “Victory” is a three-piece set devoted to the aftermath of combat rather than the fighting itself.

This change of focus makes it especially useful in an arena collection. Instead of every figure being locked permanently in combat, “Victory” allows the story to move forward to the moment when one fighter has prevailed and the attention of the arena turns towards the result.

Roman gladiators were valuable trained performers, and defeat did not automatically mean death. The popular image of every losing gladiator being immediately executed greatly exaggerates the reality of the arena, where training and maintaining accomplished fighters represented a significant investment.

GLAD-09 therefore works particularly well as a central vignette surrounded by other gladiators, arena attendants and spectators, suggesting that one bout has reached its conclusion while the games continue around it.
