GMPT-02 – Taira no Noritsune
Taira no Noritsune became renowned in later accounts as one of the Taira Clan's fiercest warriors during the closing stages of the Genpei War.
The conflict had begun as a struggle between powerful warrior families but ultimately determined which military faction would dominate Japan. By 1185 the Taira were fighting for survival against the increasingly successful Minamoto.
Noritsune features prominently in The Tale of the Heike, where his martial ability is celebrated in the dramatic literary tradition surrounding the war. He is particularly associated with the final fighting at Dan-no-ura, where the Taira cause collapsed.
GMPT-02 portrays this celebrated Taira warrior and provides a natural counterpart to the named Minamoto personalities in the John Jenkins Designs range.
