GWA-07(31) – Two Infantry Crawling – 31st Battalion
Sometimes survival on the Western Front depended upon staying as close to the ground as possible.
GWA-07(31) portrays two soldiers of the 31st Battalion crawling forward, capturing a very different stage of an infantry attack from the more familiar upright advancing poses.
The shattered landscape of the Western Front offered limited protection in the form of shell holes, crater lips and broken earthworks. Soldiers might crawl when approaching an exposed position, attempting to remain below enemy observation or moving through an area swept by fire.
These low-profile figures are particularly effective on a No Man's Land diorama base, where they can be positioned among shell craters, wire and battlefield debris. Advancing troops placed behind them can then suggest a much larger movement unfolding across the ground.
Available through The Military Workshop – an atmospheric two-piece John Jenkins Designs set portraying the 31st Battalion negotiating the dangerous exposed ground of the Western Front.
