GWB-02B – Lieutenant C.H. Sewell & Crewman

The history of Britain's early tanks is filled with stories of crews operating new and imperfect machines under extraordinary battlefield conditions.

GWB-02B represents Lieutenant C.H. Sewell and a fellow crewman, creating a named personnel set associated with the British Whippet tank.

Lieutenant Cecil Harold Sewell was an officer of the Tank Corps and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Frémicourt, France, on 29 August 1918. After his own Whippet became trapped, Sewell left the protection of his vehicle under fire to assist the crew of another tank and continued helping others before he was killed.

The set therefore adds a very specific human story to the Whippet collection rather than merely supplying generic crew.

Displayed beside GWB-02, the figures connect the machine itself with the men who operated these early armoured vehicles in battle.

Available through The Military Workshop – a historically significant John Jenkins Designs set portraying Lieutenant C.H. Sewell and a fellow tank crewman during the final campaigns of 1918.
