GWB-19D – Despatch Rider on Motorbike
The ability to send an order was only useful if that order actually reached its destination.
Throughout the First World War, despatch riders provided an important backup to telephone and other communications, carrying messages by motorcycle across the network of roads linking headquarters, supply areas and fighting units.
GWB-19D offers another motorcycle rider pose, allowing collectors to create more than one messenger without simply repeating the same figure.
Two riders can be shown travelling in different directions, parked near a headquarters or passing through a supply area. The motorcycle also works particularly well alongside trucks and horse-drawn wagons, illustrating the remarkable variety of transport operating behind the front.
The Military Workshop is pleased to offer GWB-19D – another finely realised John Jenkins Designs despatch rider representing the communications network behind the Western Front.
