GWB-25 – Two Australian Crew – “Lending a Hand”

The armies fighting on the Western Front depended upon cooperation between thousands of men performing specialised jobs. Artillerymen, transport personnel, engineers, tank crews and infantry all contributed to keeping the enormous machinery of war functioning, and there were countless occasions when an extra pair of hands was needed.

GWB-25 – “Lending a Hand” portrays two Australian crewmen assisting with the work at hand, making this a particularly versatile addition to a First World War collection.

Rather than depicting another moment of direct combat, the figures represent the practical day-to-day activity that took place behind and around the fighting line. Heavy equipment had to be moved, ammunition handled, vehicles serviced and supplies transferred, often under extremely difficult conditions.

The figures can therefore be incorporated into a number of scenes. Position them with artillery and ammunition, beside a vehicle, around a supply dump or alongside other crew figures to create the impression of men working together on a specific task.

Sets such as GWB-25 are invaluable for giving a large diorama a sense of purpose beyond the battlefield itself.

Available from The Military Workshop – a characterful two-figure John Jenkins Designs Australian crew set bringing the everyday teamwork of the Great War to life.
