GWB-51 – Royal Garrison Artillery – Driver

The Royal Garrison Artillery, or RGA, operated much of the British Army's heavier artillery during the First World War. Its batteries employed weapons capable of delivering enormous destructive power, but those guns, their ammunition and associated equipment also created formidable transportation problems.

GWB-51 represents a Driver of the Royal Garrison Artillery, focusing attention on one of the essential support roles behind the guns.

Despite the increasing use of motor transport, horses remained indispensable throughout the war. Drivers had responsibility not simply for controlling their teams but also for the welfare of the animals upon which military transport still heavily depended.

A figure such as this is ideal alongside artillery transport, ammunition wagons or horse teams. It can also be used farther behind the battery to suggest the supply network continually bringing material forward.

Available from The Military Workshop – a detailed John Jenkins Designs Royal Garrison Artillery driver representing the transport personnel who helped keep Britain's heavy guns supplied and operational.
