GWB-64 – London Bus Passengers
Thousands of soldiers moving across the Western Front required an enormous transport system, and among the more unusual vehicles pressed into service were London's familiar motor buses.
GWB-64 – London Bus Passengers represents the men being carried aboard these vehicles during their military service.
The buses provided a practical way of moving groups of troops over road networks behind the front. For soldiers accustomed to seeing such vehicles at home, their appearance amid the shattered landscape of France and Belgium must also have been a striking reminder of civilian life.
This passenger set allows the bus to be shown performing the role for which it had been requisitioned rather than simply standing empty.
