GWF-10 – French Captain
The French Army entered the First World War with traditions formed over generations, but four years of industrial warfare transformed the responsibilities placed upon its officers.
GWF-10 – Captain represents a French officer of the Great War, providing a natural command figure for John Jenkins Designs' French troops.
A captain could command a company and was therefore responsible for a substantial body of men. On the Western Front this involved far more than leading an attack. Officers had to organise defensive positions, interpret orders, coordinate supporting weapons and maintain their units through periods of intense combat and exhausting trench duty.
By the later years of the war, experienced French officers had absorbed hard-earned lessons in artillery cooperation, small-unit tactics and the increasingly sophisticated methods required to attack modern defensive systems.
