GWF-29 – “The Angel”

Amid the destruction of the Western Front, some of the most powerful stories were not about attacking an enemy position but about helping the wounded survive.

GWF-29 – “The Angel” is one of those more personal John Jenkins Designs releases, shifting attention away from weapons and machinery towards care amid the aftermath of battle.

Medical personnel and those assisting casualties worked under extraordinarily difficult conditions. Wounded soldiers had first to be moved away from exposed ground before passing through a chain of aid posts and medical facilities farther behind the line.

“The Angel” makes an excellent focal point for a casualty scene. Surround the figure with wounded French soldiers from GWF-25, GWF-30, GWF-36, GWF-37 or GWF-39 and the individual releases can be brought together into a much larger medical vignette.

It is a quieter subject than a tank or machine gun, but one capable of adding considerable emotional depth to a Great War collection.
