GWG-02 – German Tank Crew

Germany entered the tank war later and on a much smaller scale than Britain and France. Although German troops encountered Allied tanks in increasing numbers, Germany produced relatively few of its own armoured fighting vehicles during the First World War.

GWG-02 – German Tank Crew represents one of the men associated with this small but fascinating element of the Imperial German Army.

The best-known German tank of the conflict was the enormous A7V, a heavily crewed machine that first saw combat in 1918. Germany also made use of captured Allied tanks, particularly British vehicles that could be repaired and returned to service.

Tank crew figures therefore offer collectors several interesting possibilities. They can accompany German armour, captured vehicles or be displayed during a halt or maintenance scene.

The contrast with the extensive French and British tank forces also helps illustrate how differently the major combatants approached the development of armoured warfare.

Available from The Military Workshop – a detailed John Jenkins Designs German tank crewman representing Germany's comparatively small but historically fascinating Great War armoured force.
