HITT-20A – Syrian Archer | John Jenkins Designs

The Battle of Kadesh in 1274 BC was one of the most significant military engagements of the ancient world, bringing together the powerful armies of Ramesses II of Egypt and Muwatalli II of the Hittite Empire.

The battle took place near the Orontes River, close to the fortified city of Kadesh, in territory strategically important to both empires.

The Hittites relied upon military forces drawn from across their extensive territories, supplemented by troops from allied states and mercenary contingents.

Alongside the famous Hittite war chariots were infantry and missile troops, including the Syrian mercenary archers represented in the John Jenkins Designs collection.

HITT-20A – Syrian Archer by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Syrian archer reaching for another arrow, preparing to continue firing upon the opposing forces.

The figure represents an important part of the archery sequence and is designed to complement the other Syrian archers in the range.

Combined with HITT-20B and HITT-20C, this figure allows collectors to recreate a coordinated group of archers preparing, firing and reloading their bows.

Part of the John Jenkins Designs The Ancients – Battle of Kadesh collection, this miniature is a suitable addition to a Hittite military display.
