HLANC-07 – Lancastrian Billman
The Wars of the Roses were a series of dynastic conflicts fought primarily between supporters of the rival houses of Lancaster and York during the second half of the 15th century.
While kings and great nobles dominate the history books, battles were decided by thousands of ordinary soldiers armed with bows, bills and other pole weapons.
HLANC-07 – Lancastrian Billman represents one of those men.
The bill evolved from an agricultural cutting implement into a formidable polearm. Its blade, hook and point made it useful for cutting, thrusting and pulling at an opponent, giving the billman an effective weapon in close infantry combat.
On a Wars of the Roses battlefield, billmen formed an important component of the hand-to-hand fighting strength of an army. They could follow the archery exchange and become heavily involved once opposing formations closed.
HLANC-07 can stand among other Lancastrian infantry or be positioned slightly forward as the battle moves from missile fire into close combat.
Available from The Military Workshop – a powerful John Jenkins Designs Lancastrian Billman representing the hard-fighting infantry at the heart of a Wars of the Roses army.
