HLANC-12 – Lancastrian Archer

A medieval archer required far more than the ability simply to draw a bow. Effective longbow shooting demanded strength, practice and repeated training, particularly when powerful military bows were involved.

HLANC-12 provides another Lancastrian archer pose for the John Jenkins Designs Wars of the Roses range.

The figure can be integrated into a larger body of bowmen, where variations in stance help recreate the continuous rhythm of archery – some men loosing arrows, others preparing the next shot and still others watching the enemy.

Lancastrian archers fought in a civil conflict where their opponents were often armed and equipped in much the same manner. The heraldic loyalties of the commanders differed, but the battlefield methods available to both sides shared a common English military tradition.

Place HLANC-12 ahead of the billmen and men-at-arms, allowing the archers to engage first before the heavier troops close with the enemy.

Available from The Military Workshop – another characterful John Jenkins Designs Lancastrian bowman for expanding the missile strength of a 15th-century English army.
