HLANC-16 – Lancastrian Archers

A handful of archers can decorate a medieval army; a substantial body of them begins to show how important the longbow remained to English warfare in the 15th century.

HLANC-16 – Lancastrian Archers is designed to strengthen that part of the Lancastrian battle line.

During the Wars of the Roses, commanders attempted to use archery to disrupt enemy formations and encourage an opponent to move from a favourable position. Once the range closed and the armies came together, archers could also become involved in the hand-to-hand struggle.

For display purposes, this set is particularly effective when mixed among the individual HLANC bowmen. Avoid arranging every figure in a perfectly straight line; staggering the ranks creates a much more convincing body of troops.

Place billmen and men-at-arms behind them and the collection begins to resemble a complete Lancastrian battle rather than a series of individual figures.

Available from The Military Workshop – an excellent John Jenkins Designs Lancastrian archer set for adding the numbers and depth needed for a convincing Wars of the Roses army.
