HMRR-02R – Centurion & Signifer – Red Shields

As Rome expanded during the Middle Republic, its armies fought increasingly demanding wars against opponents including the Samnites, Carthaginians, Gauls and the Hellenistic kingdoms.

The Roman military system evolved through these experiences, and effective leadership at unit level was crucial to its success.

HMRR-02R – Centurion & Signifer provides another command pairing for the Republican Roman army, again presented with red shields.

The centurion represents the experienced fighting leadership of the formation, while the Signifer carries the standard around which the soldiers could maintain their position and identity amid the confusion of battle.

A second command pairing is particularly useful in a large Roman army. Rather than having one officer supervising an entire display, HMRR-02R can lead another body of infantry or represent a separate element of the battle line.

Combine the set with Hastati and the other Mid-Republic releases to create a Roman force with visible command and organisation throughout its ranks.
