HMRR-05R – Hastati – Red Shields
Before Rome possessed a professional standing army of the later Imperial type, military service was closely connected with the citizen body of the Republic.
HMRR-05R – Hastati represents the younger heavy infantrymen who traditionally formed the first main fighting line of the Mid-Republican legion, presented here with the red shield variation.
A Hastatus needed to be capable of fighting at several distances. His pilum could be thrown shortly before contact, after which he relied upon his shield and sword in the brutal close fighting that followed.
The individual format makes HMRR-05R particularly useful for filling spaces within the larger four- and eight-man Hastati sets. Place him slightly ahead of the formation, on its flank or among other poses to prevent the battle line appearing too regular.
The red shield also coordinates naturally with the HMRR command figures, allowing a visually unified Roman contingent to be assembled.
